The Initiative of Excellence - University of Bordeaux Activity Report
The IdEx activity report presents just some of our actions and achievements within the domains of training, research and knowledge transfer.
Launched in 2010 by the French government, the “Investments for the Future” program has invested in a select number of projects. These projects share the objective of developing a more competitive French economy and addressing the challenges of the future within a cohesive Europe.
One of the cornerstones of the “Investments for the Future” program relies on the development of world-class, multidisciplinary, research intensive universities, as outlined by the Initiatives of Excellence (IdEx). In 2011, the University of Bordeaux was one of the first universities to be awarded an Initiative of Excellence label. The label recognizes and supports an ambitious development project that is based on extensive academic transformation.
Since 2012 and the launch of the IdEx project, a total of 22 actions have been implemented, boosting innovative training, research and knowledge transfer programs, as well as the international reputation of Bordeaux as an attractive destination for higher education and research. In 2016, the “Initiative of Excellence” label was definitively granted to the University of Bordeaux, in recognition of its successful academic transformation, and in support of its strategic capacity and vision to develop as a leading, international, research university.
The activity report presented herewith looks back over some of our collective achievements, and highlights projects with the defining feature of responding to the challenges of the future.
It presents the programs of the IdEx University of Bordeaux via the six action priorities that also guide the strategic objectives defined for the period 2017 until 2020 and beyond. These are: Research challenges, Talent culture, Innovative programs, Student empowerment, International outreach, Socio-economic connections.
After the pivotal period of the academic year 2016/2017, building on the dynamics of a local, national and international community, the University of Bordeaux has developed a strategic plan for 2025 (U25) based on a shared vision of the future for higher education and research.
The future promises many new projects for the University of Bordeaux.
