A warm welcome to our international researchers
The renowned Welcome cocktail for international researchers, organized by the Welcome Center for International Researchers, took place this year on the 17th October at the Cité du Vin.
Over 200 people, representing 50 different nationalities, attended the event which was supported by the Château Lafite Rothschild, Bordeaux Gironde Investissement "Invest in Bordeaux", Bordeaux Métropole "Magnetic Bordeaux" and the “Fondation Bordeaux Université”.
During a brief speech, Manuel Tunon de Lara (President of the University of Bordeaux), expressed his pleasure at bringing together representatives from the four corners of the world. The evening then continued with the traditional draw which was announced by Jean-Luc Vincent (Director of Marketing and Operations, Château Lafite Rothschild) and Hélène Jacquet (Deputy Executive Director for Research, International, Innovation and Partnerships, UBx). Winners representing India, Colombia, China, Uruguay and the Ivory Coast received the prize of an exclusive visit to the wine estate of Château Lafite Rothschild followed by a lunch.
We say that Bordeaux is magnetic – attracting more and more talents to our city, our region, our university!

The Welcome cocktail was also the occasion for the “Fondation Bordeaux Université” to inaugurate their donation terminal, a device that collects donations made by bank card, in support of the various training, research or innovation projects managed by the Foundation.
This event was just one of many organized during the International Week of the University of Bordeaux which took place from the 14th until the 20th October. Destined for students, researchers and staff, the week consists of workshops, fairs, conferences, debates, quizzes etc. which are organized to highlight and inform about the international opportunities proposed by the University of Bordeaux.
Welcome Center for International Researchers
The Welcome Center for International Researchers (WCIR) is a service provided by the University of Bordeaux that assists with welcoming and integrating international researchers and their families to the Gironde region. Serving all higher education and research institutions in Gironde, the team works to ensure that researchers are supported for immigration and administrative procedures, accommodation and social/cultural integration. The WCIR also hosts the student residence permits facility. In 2016, the WCIR and the student residence permits facility welcomed over 800 researchers and 3,500 international students.
