An orientation week to welcome our international students!
At the beginning of the academic year 2018/2019, the University of Bordeaux organized the first ever orientation week to welcome its international students.
Between the 28th August and the 1st September 2018, 100 students representing 35 different nationalities were able to meet each other and discover some of the welcome services provided, before embarking on their courses within the framework of exchange programs or international study programs.
The agenda of the week was rich and varied with French language classes and socio-cultural activities. The international students were able to participate in presentations about the different university services and student associations. Campus tours as well as guided walks through the city of Bordeaux were proposed. A lunch picnic was the ideal opportunity for the newcomers to be introduced to their French “Buddy”, thanks to the student mentoring system in place. At the end of the week, 170 students took part in an excursion to Biscarosse, a town on the Atlantic coast of southwest France, just over one hour from Bordeaux.
On the 21st September, a welcome reception was organized for students arriving to Bordeaux from elsewhere in the world. Manuel Tunon de Lara, President of the University of Bordeaux, attended the event to meet with and personally welcome the international students of 2018/2019!
All in all, a great way to start what is surely to be a great year of international studies at the University of Bordeaux!
