An orientation week to welcome our international students!

At the beginning of the academic year 2019/2020, the University of Bordeaux organized the second edition of its orientation week to welcome international students.

  • 02/10/2019

Between the 26th and 31st August 2019, over 250 students from various disciplines, representing 45 different nationalities were able to meet each other and discover some of the welcome services provided, before embarking on their courses within the framework of exchange programs or international study programs.

The agenda of the week was rich and varied with French language classes to suit all levels and socio-cultural activities. International students were invited to participate in a number of practical activities to help them settle in to Bordeaux student life and their main campus site. These activities included "Back to University" meetings, discovering the Student Life Center hotlines and Student Health Center, as well as campus and university library visits. A guided boat tour through the city center was also proposed.

A lunch picnic was the ideal opportunity for the newcomers to be introduced to their French “Buddy”, thanks to the student mentoring system in place. Another highlight was the giant blablapéro, allowing international students to exchange with the student association network.

At the end of the week, 150 students took part in an excursion to Biscarosse, a town on the Atlantic coast of southwest France, just over one hour from Bordeaux. Students enjoyed a morning dedicated to treetop adventure courses, followed by a relaxing afternoon at the beach.

This event was much appreciated by international students in 2018 and it is now an established annual event to facilitate integration in our University.

Welcome reception

On the 20th September, a welcome reception was organized for students arriving to Bordeaux from elsewhere in the world. Manuel Tunon de Lara, President of the University of Bordeaux, attended the event to meet with and personally welcome the international students of 2019/2020!

All in all, a great way to start what is surely to be a great year of international studies at the University of Bordeaux!
