Exchange programs
Welcome to the University of Bordeaux! With several hundred partner universities spread across the continents, the University of Bordeaux welcomes over 500 students to its exchange programs every year.
Programs available
The programs available are: ERASMUS+, the Bureau de Coopération Interuniversitaire (BCI), as well as mobility periods organized according to a cooperation agreement.
Before applying for an exchange, please check that an agreement has been signed between your home university and the University of Bordeaux.
Nomination
Firstly, please submit your application to your home university. Once submitted, your university may then propose your application to the International Mobility Office concerned within the International Office of the University of Bordeaux.
Choice of courses
In order to complete a mobility period, you must follow a relevant course of study with the University of Bordeaux. This is to ensure that the courses you follow here will be academically recognized upon your return home. Consult the information available below that will help you prepare your learning agreement.

Please note, certain restrictions exist for the following subjects:
Application
Once nominated by your home university for an exchange, you may start your application.
Complete your file online by uploading the following documents:
- An ID photo
- A copy of your ID card
- A certificate confirming a B1 level (minimum) of French, if you want to follow classes in French, and/or a certificate confirming a B1 level in English (minimum) if you wish to follow classes in English
- Your transcript of records in French or English (unofficial translations are accepted)
- Your medicine learning agreement validated by the mobility officer of your home university, or
- Your learning agreement for other subjects validated by the mobility officer of your home university.
Mobility coordinators
Do not hesitate to contact our mobility coordinators who are there to provide advice and support during your mobility period.
Application deadlines
- Before the 1st May for mobility periods starting in September.
- Before the 1st November for mobility periods starting in January.
Validation and visa
After receiving your application, the International Mobility Office will send out your acceptance letter along with all the necessary information to help you prepare for your arrival at our university.
Students from non-European Union country will need to ask for a student visa in order to come and stay in France. Applications should be submitted to the French Consulate of your home country. If you need complementary information, do not hesitate to contact your International Mobility Office.
Accommodation
There are many accommodation solutions in Bordeaux. However, we would advise that you start your search as early as possible in order to ensure that your exchange period goes smoothly, right from the beginning! You may find more information about accommodation solutions here on our website.
As for the student residence CROUS accommodation, you must create an account on messervices.etudiant.gouv.fr in order to obtain an INE number. The International Mobility Office will then send you all the relevant information to complete your application and reservation.
French courses
The International Office offers French courses free of charge for exchange students. These will help you follow and understand your specialty classes and also help your integration process within the campus and the city of Bordeaux. Your International Mobility Office will send you all the necessary information so that you may register for these classes.
Arrival in Bordeaux
Your International Mobility Office and your Student Life Centers are here to help you prepare your arrival at the University of Bordeaux.
An Orientation week will be organised at the end of August for students welcomed within the framework of exchange programs. Before your arrival, you will receive all the necessary information in order to register for this week.
Finally, do not hesitate to read the International Student Welcome Guide and visit our dedicated website pages for useful information during your stay in Bordeaux (catering, transports, insurance, etc.).
Registration at the University
A few months before your arrival, you will receive all the documents necessary to register at the University of Bordeaux. It is highly recommended that you return these documents duly completed to your International Mobility Office in order to register as quickly as possible and thus obtain your student card.
